Principal Statistical Analyst / Data Scientist

This position is currently located in Bloomingdale, IL but will relocate to Nashville, TN in the fall of 2017

Principal Statistical Analyst / Data Scientist is the most technically advanced role in Analytics and also requires the most advanced level of business skills among all of the Analysts. According to company needs at any given time, this teammate will perform and lead any large scale advanced statistical analysis using any technique that is needed by the business with perfect or nearly perfect accuracy in the first attempt without any supervision. This Analyst performs the most extremely complex analyses while also training, mentoring, and technically supervising less experienced Analysts in those and other techniques. This role will also communicate effectively on multiple levels, using highly technical language with other Analysts and translating technical results clearly and effectively for C-Level and below executives. Despite this being a highly technical role, this teammate’s business skills are advanced enough to develop professional relationships with C-Level executives outside of Analytics that instill trust in the Analytics methodologies.
Performs primarily large scale statistical analyses or large scale modeling projects independently or while training and supervising other Analysts' technical work.

BSRO and CFNA Analytics are both centrally designed departments reporting directly to the respective company CEO. These departments are charged with improving enterprise decisions through the translation of data. As such, these departments focus on the highest most impactful use of data and advanced analytics to improve decisions. The department works will all other departments (Marketing, Finance, Real-Estate, Operations, Etc.) to identify those opportunities and perform the analysis. Given the breadth of responsibility and diversity of the advanced analytics that need to be performed these individuals must be able to accomplish all types of advanced analytics (too many to list in this form).

Statistical Analysis / Data Science (65%):

a. Builds new predictive/descriptive models, evaluate current effectiveness of old models, design experiments/campaigns and analyze the resulting data, perform post-hoc (correlational) analysis when experimental designs (causational analyses) are not feasible and explains the limitations of the results, advises analytical data programmers on quality and infrastructure needs/challenges, etc.
b. Majority of time spent coding is on creation of new code
c. Rarely writes repetitive code due to it being below the technical requirements of the position

f. Creation of extremely advanced technical documents for auditors and government agencies as appropriate
g. Identify data quality issues and drive their resolution with whoever is appropriate for the given issue.
h. Identifies and independently resolves data issues (such as missing values and invalid data)
i. Creates advanced transformations independently
j. Formally train less experienced Analysts.
k. Develop formal training materials.
l. Apply skills learned in previous roles to the business using SAS with great autonomy.
m. Mentors and provides technical supervision to Senior level analysts
n. Collaborates strategically with executives outside of Analytics
o. Focused primarily on large scale high-value projects that may also have legal sensitivity or scrutiny
p. Applies advanced techniques for dealing with small sample sizes independently
q. Applies advanced techniques for handling interactions independently

Technical Supervision / Training / Development (25%)

Technically supervising, mentoring, coaching, and training all less senior analysts on advanced statistical techniques and how to apply them to business problems

Organization Analytics Strategy / Direction (10%)

Assist Associate Director and Director of Analytics in the identification and quantification of applications of analytics and development of project charters and plans as appropriate

Qualifications / Experience

MS degree in Analytics, Statistics, or Mathematics fields and 12+ years of Analytics experience or PhD degree and 10+ years of Analytics experience
5+ years of SAS programming experience in previous roles (SAS not substitutable with any other programming language).
Expertise acquired through prior experience in applying statistical/mathematical techniques in 2 or more business units/focus areas (Operations, Supply Chain, Real-Estate, Pricing, Marketing, Credit Risk management).
Advanced knowledge of the applications of Analytics in all business units/focus areas
Statistical Expert able to apply techniques as appropriate for extremely large data sets with 1,000+ variables (columns)
Must be a master storyteller able to explain complicated statistical analyses, techniques, and results to non-statistical audiences of C-level Executives and below.
Capable of working and communicating directly with C-level Executives and below to scope the technical needs of large scale, high-value, technically complex projects.
Capable of developing, training, mentoring, and technically supervising all levels of analysts
Expert in writing extremely large and complex technical documents for auditors or government agencies
