Data Architect

Contract Position

Description

As a member of the Data Services team, the Data Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Our data warehouse is built on Amazon S3, EC2 and Redshift, and we’re always exploring new tools for turning large datasets into actionable insights. We sit at the hub of technology and business at NR|HL, supplying all departments with information, tools, and training to make better, more efficient use of data.

Responsibilities

Lead the Data Services team in implementing best practices for EDW data modeling, design, development, testing, production support, and end user training.
Design and build data integration processes between Nordstrom and NR|HL systems.
Partner with the stakeholders to understand business objectives and requirements.
Work in a highly Agile/Scrum/Kanban environment to support incremental delivery of functionality.
Ensure the quality of all EDW data inputs and outputs.
Act as the gatekeeper to EDW change requests and actively seek to reduce risk and minimize downtime.
Travel occasionally (around once per quarter) to Seattle to participate in integration discussions.
Provide occasional on-call production support of ETL processes after hours.

Qualifications / Experience

Minimum 6 years of experience in data warehouse architecture design, logical and physical data and ETL process modeling.
Extensive experience in all phases of Data Warehouse development.
Expert SQL skills.
Experience with various ETL platforms, ideally including Pentaho Data Integration (Kettle).
Experience with Amazon Redshift or other MPP database platforms.
Experience supporting BI tools.
Must be self-motivated, energetic, detail oriented and a team player.
Superior verbal and written presentation skills are required.
Demonstrate skills to suggest and lead others to think critically in discussions.
Nice to have:
Python, Perl, or Java
Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig or Hive
Statistical programming (e.g. R, SAS)
Experience using AWS for data applications (e.g. EC2, S3, Redshift, RDS, Data Pipeline)
Monitoring tools such as Nagios
